Animal Encounters at Dancing Coyote Camp |
Wild animals, such as rabbits, chipmunks, coyotes and a myriad of birds are in constant abundance here at Dancing Coyote Camp. Studying several animals such as deer, small lizards, and a variety of birds will actually be part of the curriculum. Your children will delight to observe these magnificent creatures in their natural surroundings. Procedures to Ensure Animal Encounter Safety Dancing Coyote Camp has established procedures and staff trained in the steps to ensure the safety of our student campers. There will be one staff person for every 5 campers at all times. Animals such as small black bears and, of course, coyotes have been seen in the area, however we view sightings of such animals as a privilege and teach the children to respect the animals' habitats. There are two large Belgian Shepherd Dogs present (they are friendly, but protective of the children), numerous adults, and noisy children. This will make any sightings of bears, cougars, coyotes, and other such animals extremely rare. There are no poisonous snakes typically at this elevation. Skunks and porcupines are mostly nocturnal. They tend to also be seasonal, meaning they are generally inactive in this area in the summer. Studying Animals as Part of the Dancing Coyote Camp Curriculum The philosophy of Dancing Coyote Camp is to teach your children, our student campers, to respect and appreciate all the animals with which they share nature. Your child will be studying tracks (like the ones at the bottom of every page in this site!), eating habits, and other facts about the creatures indigenous to the area. For more information, learn about the camp curriculum, the camp staff, and even the camp food! Review the camp calendar, then download an application today, space is going fast!
