Dancing Coyote Camp — The Nature Awareness Experience for Children Ages 7-14

Procedures in Case of Emergency at Dancing Coyote Camp

All parents, upon camper admission, shall be asked to complete a Medical Records Form and a Consent for Emergency Treatment Form, giving permission for camp staff to act with best judgment if immediate action is needed. The Emergency Treatment Form will be in the possession of the attending staff member during all activities.

The camp director, Gayle Holeton, was with the Stevens Pass ski patrol for over ten years. She held an EMT accreditation to handle medical emergencies.

Dancing Coyote Camp has an established, written medical policy and procedure guide.

Staff Trained in Emergency Medical Procedures and and Preparedness

The staff at Dancing Coyote Camp are all trained in first aid procedures. Staff is trained at least to the level of "Advanced First Aid". If they are unable to administer to the person, they can prepare any injured person for transport to local emergency facilities as per their American Red Cross first aid training. Emergency practice sessions ensure they act in an effective and efficient manor, maintaining safety for themselves and the other campers.

A full-charge first aid kit will be on site to take care of scrapes and bruises and for more serious injuries. The following is a list of supplies kept on the camp premises:

  • First aid training manual
  • Bandages
  • Splints
  • C-collar
  • Back board
  • Epi-pen (for anaphylactic shock)

Portable Emergency Supplies Carried by All Staff

First aid fanny packs are worn by staff when out of reach of the main kit. These portable emergency supplies include:

  • Band-Aids™
  • Triangle bandage
  • Gloves
  • Ice pack
  • Cell phone
  • Tweezers
  • Scissors
  • Paper and pencil
  • Child’s Emergency Treatment Form

If further medical assistance is required we will take the student to the nearby clinic in Leavenworth and reach the parent for further directions. The camp is only 2.5 miles from the Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth, which is equipped with an emergency room, and is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Fire Evacuation

In case of forest fire, camp staff will comply with forest service notice to evacuate. The road forms a loop so escape can occur two ways by vehicle. If evacuation by foot is necessary, campers will be alerted to the route, eastward down the hillside to join with Highway 2. Read more about Dancing Coyote Camp's fire safety procedures.
