Dancing Coyote Camp — The Nature Awareness Experience for Children Ages 7-14

Fire Safety is Serious Business at Dancing Coyote Camp

Children learn about fire safety at Dancing Coyote Camp. Campers are not allowed to have any open flames or start any fires during the entire camp. Only the council fire and gas cooking equipment, both tended by staff personnel, are permitted. The camp portion of the 20-acre site has been groomed by experts to resist forest fires.

The national USDA Forest Service tracks conditions of dryness and the potential for fire hazard in Wenatchee National Forest. There are also over 200 trained volunteer forest fire fighters living in and around Leavenworth. In case of a forest fire, camp staff will comply with Forest Service notice to evacuate.

If evacuation should ever be necessary, there are two routes of escape by vehicle as the road forms a loop past the camp. Staff can either take campers to safety using camp vehicles or, if appropriate and necessary, can lead campers on foot eastward down the hillside, through the orchard to Highway 2 and the Wenatchee River. (This walking route is about one half mile downhill).

Part of the curriculum teaches children about nature’s rejuvenation process by visiting past burned sites and observing what has occurred since the fire of 1994.

Rest assured with the Dancing Coyote Camp emergency procedures and animal encounter procedures.
