Rachel L. Flitcraft was born on September 26, 1912 on a farm in Woodstown, New Jersey. In 1928 at the age of 16 she attended Camp Iroquois, an all-girl's camp in the Adirondacks, where for three consecutive summers was engaged with the "wilderness of the time." There were not many sports at camp, just tennis and basketball, so the girls spent their summer days; hiking, swimming, observing and documenting the natural world around them and putting on small plays. She slept four to a "tent" which was a raised wood platform with a canvas top, mosquito netting, and 4-bunk beds.

Rachel became Rachel F. Holeton in 1934 and raised five children, three girls and two boys. She lived in Bellevue, Washington for about 25 years before moving to Florida. To say that she loved the mountains, forests and lakes of our beautiful Northwest would be to understate her absolute adoration. She inspired all those around her with her enthusiasm for nature. Whenever she would visit Washington from Florida, she would want to go to Mr. Rainier, visit waterfalls, or go to the Olympic National Park to see the rain forest.

Rachel got a chance to visit the future site of Dancing Coyote Camp in 1998. She was always very supportive of the concept, and later when camp was underway, she would ask how each session went. She died in 2004 at the age of 92. The mountains and the forests have her now so she can be at camp forever, with her infectious good cheer and laughter. "Oh, look, look," she would always exclaim; "Isn't that beautiful!"
