Tribute to Tye Nason Cruver, Camp Cook 2007 |

|
Dancing Coyote Camp will be without our beloved Cook in 2008. Tye Nason Cruver was on his way from Bellingham to spend his birthday and Thanksgiving with his family in Pullman, when he was in killed in a traffic accident. He was 23 years old. We only got to experience being with Tye for four weeks as our cook at camp summer of 2007. During that time we saw a young man with a peaceful and steady nature, one at home in the woods, attuned to the music of the birds and the wind in the trees. Tye was not real hot for city life. When we remember the
fullness of the summer days, all the rich moments of living at camp, it
seems a metaphor for Tye’s life. He was doing exactly what he wanted
to do. He approached his cooking tasks from an artist’s viewpoint,
utilizing all the senses, to create pleasing and nourishing sustenance
for all his charges, even tailoring to some individual likes and dislikes.
He even found my absolute favorite food! While putting away camp in the
fall I found a note telling me to look in the freezer as he had saved
a pecan tart for me! If you would like to relay any stories about your recollections of Tye last summer send to me at info@dancingcoyotecamp.com or at our street address, below, and I will forward to his Father, Mother and two younger brothers. His goals and dreams although unattained, just by their dreaming and sharing them with us, enrich our lives.
Reconnecting children to the wonders of nature.
