 Dancing Coyote Camp — The Nature Awareness Experience for Children Ages 7-14

A Typical Day: Adventure and Learning at Dancing Coyote Camp

An established routine helps the children's integration into the rhythms of the camp. At the same time, variety within the schedule helps make the camp even more fun! There is always something new to do at Dancing Coyote Camp!

One-Week Camp Daily Agenda (sample of potential activities)

7:30am Morning chimes, stretch, rise and shine (or our friendly dog Sahalee will be glad to wake you)
8:00am - 9:00am Breakfast, followed by clean-up, sack lunch preparation, small group lessons
9:00am - 11:00am Group A B C 40 min. rotation lessons including: journal entry, art, poetry, geology in the field, botany
11:00am - 12:00pm Free time, Frisbee golf, prepare for excursions
12:00pm - 1:00pm Lunch
1:00pm - 5:00pm River play, hiking mountain trials
5:00pm - 6:00pm Open time, meal preparation, showers, and clean up
6:00pm - 7:00pm Dinner
7:00pm - 8:00pm Free time, evening nature observations
8:00pm - 9:00pm Campfire stories, myths, songs
9:00pm - 9:30pm Ready for bed, lights out

Two-Week Camp Daily Agenda (sample of potential activities)

With a bit more experience under their belts, our two-week campers get to experience even more fun and a wider variety of activities.

7:30am Same as above
8:00am - 9:00am Breakfast, followed by clean-up, sack lunch preparation, small group lessons
9:00am - 3:00pm Prepare for excursions: Hike the watershed, naturalist lesson at Fish Hatchery, collect reeds, lunch, return to camp
3:00pm - 5:00pm Basket weaving lessons with materials collected, or history lesson, or rock painting
5:00pm - 6:00pm Prepare homemade ice cream, free time
6:00pm - 7:00pm Dinner
7:00pm - 8:00pm Free time, evening nature observations
8:00pm - 9:00pm Campfire preparation, stories and songs
9:00pm - 9:30pm Ready for bed, lights out

The intent of the activities will be to have fun while being exposed to a deeper awareness, expanded understanding and appreciation of nature in the Pacific Northwest. There are wide variety of activities and experiences during the typical day at Dancing Coyote Camp:

Variations will include the very popular "night hike" and "make friends with the dark" lessons, supported by their science counterpart lessons during the teaching sessions in the morning and afternoon.

Weather also plays a part in the variation of the activities. Teachers plan the day and post the schedule in harmony with nature's weather plans.
